Lake County is home to Clear Lake, the largest natural freshwater lake in California and possibly the oldest lake in North America. With its emerald water contrasting against the golden foothills, it has become the hottest fishing lake in California (bass being the principal sport fish). The lake itself, which is nineteen miles long and eight miles at its widest also has extremely high levels of nutrients & a large minnow population that supports an abundance of bass, catfish, & crappie. For the youngsters, put a mealworm on a hook under a bobber, toss it out along the tule-lined shore, & watch them hook the big one!
Several businesses around the lake rent boating equipment and offer parasailing. Gliding is available 30 minutes away in Middletown. Several great restaurants are located within a 1 mile radius of the hotel as well as a Safeway and Wal-Mart nearby. Konocti Outdoor Concert Hall where many popular artists perform is located approximately 20 minutes away. There are many first rate golf courses within driving distance.
For those who enjoy wine tasting, we recommend Lake County’s highly acclaimed wineries including Kendall-Jackson, Konocti, and Guenoc. In fact, over a hundred years ago, the Guenoc Winder Winery was developed by the well known British actress fin-de-siecle personality, Lillie Langtry.
The area is generously endowed with state parks such as the Mendocino National Forest at the north end of the Lake, Clearlake State Park in Kelseyville, and Anderson Marsh State Historic Park in Lower Lake. All offer a wide variety of hikes, bird watching and archaeological sites.
